The latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that in 2024, large-scale industrial enterprises in China recorded total operating revenue of ¥137.77 trillion, representing a 2.1% increase from the previous year. The mining sector generated ¥5.91 trillion in revenue, down 5.2% year-on-year, while the coal mining and processing industry saw a sharper decline, with revenue falling 11.1% to ¥3.16 trillion.

 

In terms of profitability, large-scale industrial enterprises reported ¥7.43 trillion in total profits for 2024, a 3.3% decrease compared to the previous year. The mining sector’s total profit dropped 10.0% to ¥1.13 trillion, with the coal mining and processing industry experiencing a steeper decline of 22.2%, bringing total profits down to ¥604.64 billion.

 

Operating costs also shifted over the year. In 2024, the cost per ¥100 of operating revenue for large-scale industrial enterprises rose to ¥85.16, an increase of ¥0.36 from the previous year, while expenses per ¥100 of revenue edged down slightly to ¥8.59, a ¥0.01 decrease year-on-year. The mining sector’s total operating costs fell 1.8% to ¥3.95 trillion, while costs in the coal mining and processing industry declined 7.8% to ¥2.11 trillion.
