On February 7 at 11:31 AM, Henan’s power grid set a new record, with renewable energy output surpassing 30 million kW for the first time, reaching 30.77 million kW. This included 24.4 million kW from solar power and 6.37 million kW from wind power, accounting for 51.1% of the province’s total electricity demand at that moment. The new peak exceeds the previous record of 29.37 million kW set on August 11, 2024, by 1.4 million kW.

This milestone is driven by Henan’s accelerating renewable energy development. As of January 2025, the province’s total installed renewable energy capacity had reached 68.77 million kW, an 8.6 million kW increase from 2024. Renewable energy has now overtaken coal power as Henan’s largest energy source, with distributed solar adding 6.3 million kW, making it the primary growth driver.

To accommodate surging renewable capacity, State Grid Henan Electric Power has implemented key measures to enhance grid stability and energy management, including: Optimizing grid operations to balance supply and demand for renewable energy. Expanding interprovincial power exchanges to improve cross-regional load balancing. Utilizing energy storage solutions, including pumped storage hydropower and battery storage, to smooth fluctuations. Enhancing local power plant coordination, improving real-time generation scheduling and operational oversight.

Looking ahead, State Grid Henan Electric Power plans to leverage large-scale grid resources, enhance internal efficiency, and expand external market integration to further drive high-quality renewable energy development.
