Tempered glass may be damaged when exposed to heat, but it depends on the degree of heat exposure and the conditions. ‌

The high temperature resistance range of ordinary tempered glass is usually between 200℃ and 250℃. Within this temperature range, tempered glass can maintain its original physical and chemical properties without cracking or deformation. However, beyond this temperature range, tempered glass may be at risk of cracking or breaking‌.

In addition, tempered glass can withstand temperature changes 3-4 times that of ordinary glass. It can generally withstand temperature changes of more than 250 degrees, but it may still break under rapid temperature changes.

Thermal Resistance Testing for 3.2mm and 6mm Tempered Glass:

Huide Glass is one fabricating factory for tempered glass products used for home and kitchen appliances. we did one heat resistance testing for 3.2mm and 6mm thick tempered glass sheet. we put the 3.2mm thick tempered glass into the oven of 250℃ for 30 minutes, then drop cool water(around 11℃-15℃) on the heated glass sheet for at least 60s, the 3.2mm thick tempered glass sheet won't damage due to that 250℃ temperature change.

Then we put 6mm thick tempered glass sheet into the oven set 300℃ for 30 minutes, then drop cool water on it, that 6mm thick tempered glass sheet didn't break or deform. which proves that the 6mm tempered glass can at least withstand temperature change over 300℃.

Can Tempered Glass Be Damaged By Heat?

Factors that affect the high temperature resistance of tempered glass include:

Rate of temperature change‌: Rapid temperature changes can cause uneven stress distribution within the tempered glass, thereby increasing the risk of cracking of tempered glass sheet.

Thickness of glass‌: Tempered glass with a larger thickness has better high temperature resistance. For example, five millimeters of tempered glass can withstand a high temperature of 250 degrees, while a ten millimeter tempered glass can withstand a high temperature of 280 degrees.

Usage environment‌: In hot summer or cold winter, the self-explosion rate of tempered glass will increase due to the large temperature difference.

Ways to prevent heat damage to tempered glass include:

Avoid sharp temperature changes‌: During use, try to avoid making the tempered glass experience sharp temperature changes to prevent cracking due to excessive stress.

Choose high-quality tempered glass‌: High-quality tempered glass or tempered glass made of special materials (such as potassium soda-lime tempered glass and titanium tempered glass) can withstand higher temperatures‌

Essential Maintenance Tips

Keeping tempered glass in optimal condition requires regular maintenance and awareness of environmental conditions:

Regular Inspections: Perform routine checks of all tempered glass installations, paying special attention to any signs of stress, scratches, or chips that might weaken its integrity.

Cleaning Practices: Use non-abrasive cleaners and tools to avoid scratching the surface of tempered glass. A simple mixture of warm water with a few drops of dish soap works well. Avoid using any cleaners containing ammonia, which can damage the tempered glass over time.

Replace Damaged Tempered Glass: If you identify any chips, cracks, or other damage, take immediate action to replace the glass to maintain safety.

Due to that high temperature resistance of tempered glass, tempered glass products are widely used in kitchen appliances, like gas stove top glass, microwave oven or oven door glass, dishwasher door glass, range hood glass, stove range glass, etc where heat resistance is priority.
