The National Energy Administration has recently released the latest data on renewable energy grid connection for 2024.
The data shows that installed renewable energy capacity continues to reach new milestones. In 2024, 373 million kW of renewable energy was added to the grid, marking a 23% year-on-year increase, and accounting for 86% of total new installed capacity. The breakdown includes 13.78 million kW of hydropower, 79.82 million kW of wind power, 278 million kW of solar power, and 1.85 million kW of biomass power.
By the end of 2024, the total renewable energy installed capacity in China reached 1.889 billion kW, up 25% year-on-year, and now represents about 56% of the country’s total installed capacity. This includes 436 million kW of hydropower, 521 million kW of wind power, 887 million kW of solar power, and 46 million kW of biomass power.
In addition, biomass power saw an increase of 1.85 million kW in 2024. By December 2024, the total biomass power installed capacity reached 45.99 million kW, a 4% year-on-year increase. Biomass power generation rose to 208.3 billion kWh, reflecting a 5% increase from the previous year.
